Why is my soft-close toilet seat no longer closing slowly?

Soft-close toilet seats rely on a hydraulic damper mechanism within the hinges. Over time, this can wear out or become clogged with debris. This can, in turn, cause the seat to drop quickly, one hinge soft-closing slower than the other, or a clicking or grinding sound when closing. The most common cause of a worn mechanism is due to the seat being forced shut rather than allowing it to drop naturally.

To protect the longevity of your hinges, always let it close gently on its own – don’t push it shut.
