How do I adjust or tighten a toilet seat that keeps coming loose?
Loose toilet seats are usually caused by movement in the hinge bolts or incorrectly fitted soft-close fixings. If you are experiencing the seat sliding from side to side, wobbly or misaligned hinges, or hinges that require frequent tightening, the following steps can help resolve the issues:
- Open both hinge covers and locate the fixing screws
- Using a screwdriver, tighten both sides evenly – do not over-tighten
- For bottom-fix types, hold the nut under the pan while tightening the screw from above
- Check alignment before fully tightening
