My bath waste or filler leaks or won't operate - what should I check?

Bath wastes

If your click-clack or pop-up bath waste is not working as it should, it is a good idea to first check the seal. Over time, rubber seals can wear or perish, causing leaks or preventing full closure. If you’re experiencing water draining slowly from the bath, the plug not sealing properly or a blackened or cracked rubber washer, the following steps can help to resolve the issue:

  1. Unscrew or lift out the pop-up waste plug
  2. Remove the old rubber washer and clean the threads
  3. Fit the new seal and reassemble the plug
  4. Adjust the height to ensure the waste closes fully
  5. Test for leaks before fully tightening

Replacement plugs and seals are available from our spares website

Bath fillers

If you have a bath filler that is leaking water when turned off, the issue will likely lie with the shower valve that operates it. The valve uses a ceramic disc cartridge underneath the flow handle to control the water flow. If water is still flowing to your bath filler when turned off, then it is likely that this cartridge needs to be cleaned of limescale or debris build-up.

Limescale can be cleared using a 50/50 combination of white vinegar and water. Ensure you clean off any visible debris from both the cartridge and the inside of the valve. Flush clean with fresh water before reinstalling your cartridge.

For specific instructions on how to do this, please see the maintenance guide in the instructions that were supplied with your item.
